Call of HIS VANGUARD: Advance HIS Kingdom!

STATEMENT OF FAITH - "FOUNDATIONAL TRUTHS AND VALUES"

I. TRINITY / TRIUNE GOD

We believe in the one and only triune God. We acknowledge there is one and only one living and true God revealed in three distinct eternally self-existent persons (commonly known as the Trinity): God the Father, God the Son, God the Holy Spirit, each of whom possesses equally all the attributes of Deity and the characteristics of personality, with distinct personal attributes, but without division of nature, essence, or being. God, as the Creator, Redeemer, Preserver, Lord and Ruler of the universe, is infinite in holiness and all other perfections. God is all powerful and all knowing; and His perfect knowledge extends to all things, past, present, and future, including the future decisions of His free creatures. To Him we owe the highest love, reverence, and obedience.

II. SCRIPTURES

We believe the Bible is the infallible, authoritative, eternal Word of God, fully and divinely inspired and written by men under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, and is our rule of faith and practice as God’s revelation of Himself to man. The Bible has God for its author, salvation for its end, and truth, without any mixture of error, for its matter. Therefore, all Scripture is totally true and trustworthy. It reveals the principles by which God judges us, and therefore is, and will remain to the end of the world, the true center of Christian union, and the supreme standard by which all human conduct, creeds, and religious opinions should be tried. All Scripture is a testimony to Christ, who is Himself the focus of divine revelation.

We affirm the basis of our beliefs is the Bible as contained in the 66 books of the Old and New Testaments in their entirety. We believe the Bible was uniquely, verbally and fully inspired by the Holy Spirit and that it was written without error (inerrant) in the original manuscripts in all that it affirms. It is the supreme and final authority in all matters on which it speaks and an absolute reference point for every aspect of life and ministry. We also affirm the power of God's word to accomplish His purpose of salvation to all peoples throughout all generations; consequently, the message of the Bible is addressed to all people universally, regardless of gender, nationality or social status.

III. DEITY OF CHRIST / VIRGIN BIRTH

We believe in the Deity of the Lord Jesus Christ, the living Word and the only begotten eternal Son of God. He is perfect Deity and true humanity united in one person forever. In His incarnation as the Lord Jesus Christ, He was supernaturally conceived of the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. Jesus, true God and true man, perfectly revealed and did the will of God, taking upon Himself both human nature and a physical body with its demands and necessities and identifying Himself completely with mankind, yet without sin. Christ lived a sinless life and performed miracles according to the will of the Father and by the power of the Holy Spirit. He honored the Father’s will by His personal obedience, and in His substitutionary death on the cross He made provision for the redemption of men from sin. Christ was raised from the dead with a glorified body and appeared to His disciples as the person who was with them before His crucifixion. Christ ascended into heaven and is now exalted at the right hand of God the Father, where He is the One Mediator and Advocate, fully God, fully man, in whose Person is effected the reconciliation between God and man. He will return in power and glory to judge the world and to consummate His redemptive mission. He now dwells in all believers as the living and ever-present Lord.

IV. SALVATION

We believe that all are born sinners; the Holy Spirit convicts of sin; the Lord Jesus Christ paid the price for sin by shedding His precious blood on the cross as the atonement for sin; those who refuse to accept His sacrifice for their sin are condemned to an eternity in hell, separated from God; and those who repent of their sin and personally accept the Lord Jesus Christ as Savior receive forgiveness of sin, are indwelled by the Holy Spirit, and are blessed with life everlasting in the presence of God.

We believe - though originally good - man willingly fell to sin, ushering evil and death, both physical and spiritual, into the world. God’s nature being love, and not desiring any to perish, from eternity past the Triune God chose to provide a means of complete restoration to be accomplished through Christ’s sacrifice. Therefore, we believe every person can have restored fellowship with God through “Salvation” (trusting Christ, through faith and repentance, to be his/her personal Savior).

We affirm there is no salvation apart from personal faith in Jesus Christ as Lord. Christ lived a sinless life and voluntarily atoned for the sins of men by dying on the cross as their substitute, thus satisfying divine justice and accomplishing salvation for all who trust in Him alone. Salvation is by faith alone through grace alone. The salvation of man is wholly a work of God’s free grace and is not the work, in whole or in part, of human works or goodness or religious ceremony.

We affirm that there is only one Savior and only one gospel, although there is a wide diversity of evangelistic approaches. We recognize that everyone has some knowledge of God through His general revelation in nature. But we deny that this can save, for people suppress the truth by their unrighteousness. We also reject as derogatory to Christ and the gospel every kind of merging of other religious doctrine which implies that Christ speaks equally through all religions and ideologies.

Jesus Christ, being Himself the only God-man, who gave Himself as the only ransom for sinners, is the only mediator between God and people. There is no other name by which we must be saved. Yet those who reject Christ repudiate the joy of salvation and condemn themselves to eternal separation from God.

To proclaim Jesus as “the Savior of the world” is not to affirm that all people are either automatically or ultimately saved, still less to affirm that all religions offer salvation in Christ. Rather, it is to proclaim God’s love for a world of sinners and to invite everyone to respond to Him as Savior and Lord in the wholehearted personal commitment of repentance and faith.

V. SECOND COMING OF CHRIST

We believe that Jesus Christ will return to the earth in power and glory – personally, visibly, and bodily – to consummate history and the eternal plan of God, and in specific the full consummation of the Kingdom of God, including His salvation of believers and His judgment of unbelievers. According to His promise, at Jesus Christ’s return, the dead will be raised and Christ will judge all men in righteousness. The unrighteous will be consigned to Hell, the place of everlasting punishment. The righteous in their resurrected and glorified bodies will receive their reward and will dwell forever with the Lord.

We believe in the imminent and Blessed Hope – when Jesus catches away His Church prior to His return to earth (the second coming). At this future moment in time all believers who have died will rise from their graves and will meet the Lord in the air, and Christians who are alive will be caught up with them, to be with the Lord forever. We believe in the millennial reign of Christ when Jesus returns with His saints at His second coming and begins His benevolent rule over earth for 1,000 (one thousand) years. This millennial reign will bring the salvation of national Israel and the establishment of universal peace.

VI. BAPTISM OF HOLY SPIRIT

We believe the Baptism in the Holy Spirit - with the evidence of speaking in tongues as the Spirit of God gives utterance - is a special experience following salvation, to which all believers are entitled, that empowers believers for witnessing and effective service, just as it did in New Testament times. We believe in the present day manifestation of all the gifts of the Holy Spirit in the Church and affirm that all the gifts of the Holy Spirit are valid and operative today, and that the fruit of the Holy Spirit should be increasingly evident in a Christian’s life.

VII. MINISTRIES/GIFTS OF SPIRIT

We affirm the Lord can and does call and anoint both men and women, without regard to gender, to fulfill God-ordained roles and purposes in the Body of Christ, including the five-fold ministry gifts of Apostle, Prophet, Evangelist, Pastor, and Teacher, for the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the Body of Christ. In addition, the Lord has set in the Body of Christ diversities of spiritual gifts with differences of administration and operations but it is the same Spirit who works in all. The Lord has established some to be workers of miracles, others to operate with gifts of healings, helps, and governments. Some believers may receive by the Spirit the word of wisdom, to another the word of knowledge, faith, prophecy, discerning of spirits, and diversities of tongues and interpretation of tongues.

Jesus Christ is the Head of the Church, His Body. Collectively, all believers of every kindred, tribe, nation, and language comprise the corporate Body of Christ, and yet all are also members in particular. Of paramount importance is the understanding that the spiritual gifts are to be operated within the context of love. We affirm servant leadership in the Body of Christ. As Jesus taught, “Ye know that they which are accounted to rule over the Gentiles exercise lordship over them; and their great ones exercise authority upon them. But so shall it not be among you: but whosoever will be great among you, shall be your minister: And whosoever of you will be the chiefest shall be servant of all. For even the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many”.

VIII. DIVINE HEALING / DIVINE HEALTH

We believe the redemptive work of the Lord Jesus Christ through His Atonement provides healing for our spirit, soul, and body. We affirm that divine healing and divine health is an integral part of the gospel and the privilege of all believers today.

IX. LORD’S SUPPER / COMMUNION

We believe celebrating the Lord’s Supper (also called Communion or Eucharist), consisting of partaking of the elements—bread and the fruit of the vine— is a symbolic act of obedience expressing our sharing the divine nature of our Lord Jesus Christ; a memorial of His suffering and death; and a prophecy of His second coming; and is enjoined on all believers “till He come!”

X. BAPTISM BY WATER

We believe in baptism by water in the name of the Father, Jesus the Son, and the Holy Spirit after repenting of one's sins and receiving Christ's gift of salvation. It is an act of obedience symbolizing the believer's faith in a crucified, buried, and risen Savior, the believer's death to sin, the burial of the old life, and the resurrection to walk in newness of life in Christ Jesus. It is also a testimony to his/her faith in the final resurrection of the dead.

XI. GREAT COMMISSION / EVANGELISM

We believe in obeying the Great Commission in the spirit of the Great Commandment. His Vanguard Ministries, Inc. exists as a local expression of the Body of Christ to share with our world God’s love as revealed in His Son, Jesus Christ, and to pursue a vital, living relationship with the Lord, and one another, in the power of the Holy Spirit.

The Lord Jesus Christ commanded all believers to proclaim the Gospel throughout the world and to disciple men of every nation. The fulfillment of that Great Commission requires that all worldly and personal ambitions be subordinated to a total commitment to "Him who loved us and gave Himself for us."

As citizens of God's Kingdom, we are called to love, worship and obey our Lord, to love and serve His body, the Church, and to present the whole Gospel for the whole person throughout the whole world. We believe in using every modern means of communication available to us to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ throughout the world.

XII. WORSHIP OF GOD

We believe worship of God to be the highest aim, primary purpose and greatest privilege and joy of mankind. We affirm that worship can be experienced and demonstrated through various forms of inward and outward expression such as prayer, meditation, silence, study of scriptures, singing, playing musical instruments, dance, clapping, shouting, kneeling, bowing, waving, uplifted hands, prophetic acts and movements, acts of obedience, stewardship of offerings, time and talents, and acts of mercy and compassion.

XIII. SANCTIFICATION

We believe sanctification is the experience, beginning in regeneration, by which the believer is set apart to God's purposes, and is enabled to progress toward moral and spiritual maturity through the presence and power of the Holy Spirit dwelling in him. Every believer is called to live so in the power of the indwelling Spirit that he/she will not fulfill the lust of the flesh but will bear fruit to the glory of God.

XIV. STEWARDSHIP

We believe God is the source of all blessings - temporal and spiritual; all that we have and are we owe to Him. Believers are therefore under obligation to serve God with their time, talents, and material possessions; and should recognize all these as entrusted to them to use for the glory of God and for helping others. According to the Scriptures, Christians should contribute of their means cheerfully, regularly, systematically, proportionately, and liberally for the advancement of the Kingdom’s cause on earth.

We affirm the importance of financial accountability. We declare that we as HIS Vanguard Ministries will strive to live by the highest legal, spiritual, and ethical standards in our handling of finances.

XV. SPIRITUAL CONFLICT / DELIVERANCE

We believe that we are engaged in constant spiritual warfare with the principalities and powers of evil, and rulers of wickedness in high places, who are seeking to overthrow the Church and frustrate its task of fulfilling the gospel mandate. We affirm our need to equip ourselves with God's armor and to fight this battle with the spiritual weapons of truth, prayer, and worship. For we detect the activity of our enemy, not only in false ideologies outside the Church, but also inside it in false gospels which twist Scripture and put people in the place of God. We need both watchfulness and discernment to safeguard the biblical gospel.

We acknowledge that our enemy, Satan, the deceiver, attacks both individual members and the Body of Christ corporately. The Lord has given believers spiritual weapons to defeat and overcome the enemy, with his devices and resulting oppression. “For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strongholds; Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ”.

Jesus declared that “for this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil”. Since His purpose was to deliver all mankind held captive in bondage to the enemy and destroy the works of the kingdom of darkness, as His representatives, we are enjoined to carry out that same assignment. Referring to the divine revelation to the Church of Himself as the Son of God, Christ proclaimed “the gates of hell shall not prevail against it; and I will give unto you the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever you shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever you shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.”

XVI. MARRIAGE / FAMILY / PRO-LIFE
We believe the Lord God Himself, from the very beginning of human history, ordained marriage and the family as the sacred foundational institutions of human society. As demonstrated in scripture, we affirm that a family unit is composed of persons related to one another by marriage, blood, or adoption.

We believe marriage is the uniting of one man and one woman in covenant commitment for a lifetime. Any definition of marriage other than between a man and a woman, is contrary to the clear teachings of the Holy Bible and hence against the expressed will of God. We believe that God created men and women as sexual beings. Sexuality is an integral and beautiful part of creation. The Bible clearly teaches that any sexual act outside of marriage - whether in thought, word, or deed - is sin and contrary to God’s will.

We affirm that marriage is God's unique gift to reveal the union between Christ and His church and to provide for the man and the woman in marriage the framework for intimate companionship, the channel of sexual expression according to biblical standards, and the means for procreation of the human race.

The husband and wife are of equal worth before God, since both are created in God's image. The marriage relationship models the way God relates to His people. A husband is to love his wife as Christ loved the church. He has the God-given responsibility to provide for, to protect, and to lead his family. A wife is to submit herself graciously to the servant leadership of her husband even as the church willingly submits to the headship of Christ. She, being in the image of God as is her husband and thus equal to him, has the God-given responsibility to respect her husband and to serve as his helper in managing the household and nurturing the next generation.

We believe in the sanctity of human life from the moment of conception to the time of natural death. All human life is precious in the sight of God. We believe that every person is valuable to God and His Kingdom. Therefore, as stated in scripture, children - from the moment of conception - are a blessing and heritage from the Lord. Parents are to demonstrate to their children God's pattern for marriage. Parents are to teach their children spiritual and moral values and to lead them, through consistent lifestyle example and loving discipline, to make choices based on biblical truth. Children are to honor and obey their parents.

XVII. CHRISTIANS & SOCIAL ORDER / RELIGIOUS LIBERTY

We affirm that God is both the Creator and the Judge of all men. We therefore should share his concern for justice and reconciliation throughout human society and for the liberation of men and women from every kind of oppression. Because men and women are made in the image of God, every person, regardless of race, religion, color, culture, class, sex or age, has an intrinsic dignity because of which he or she should be respected and served, not exploited.

We believe all Christians are under obligation to seek to make the will of Christ supreme in our own lives and in human society. Means and methods used for the improvement of society and the establishment of righteousness among men can be truly and permanently helpful only when they are rooted in the regeneration of the individual by the saving grace of God in Jesus Christ. In the spirit of Christ, Christians should oppose racism, every form of greed, selfishness, and vice, and all forms of sexual immorality, including adultery, homosexuality, and pornography. We should work to provide for the orphaned, the needy, the abused, the aged, the helpless, and the sick. We should speak on behalf of the unborn and contend for the sanctity of all human life from conception to natural death. Every Christian should seek to bring industry, government, and society as a whole under the sway of the principles of righteousness, truth, and brotherly love. In order to promote these ends Christians should be ready to work with all men of good will in any good cause, always being careful to act in the spirit of love without compromising their loyalty to Christ and His truth.

We affirm God alone is Lord of the conscience, and He has left it free from the doctrines and commandments of men which are contrary to His Word or not contained in it. Church and state should be separate. The state owes to every church protection and full freedom in the pursuit of its spiritual ends. In providing for such freedom no ecclesiastical group or denomination should be favored by the state more than others. Civil government being ordained of God, it is the duty of Christians to render loyal obedience thereto in all things not contrary to the revealed will of God.

The church should not resort to civil power to carry on its work. The gospel of Christ contemplates spiritual means alone for the pursuit of its ends. The state has no right to impose penalties for religious opinions of any kind. The state has no right to impose taxes for the support of any form of religion. A free church in a free state is the Christian ideal, and this implies the right of free and unhindered access to God on the part of all men, and the right to form and propagate opinions in the sphere of religion without interference by the civil power.

XVIII. UNITY IN BODY OF CHRIST
We believe that unity regarding the foundational doctrines clearly taught in the Holy Bible is absolutely essential. At the same time we also affirm that we must accept one another in the love of Jesus recognizing that there are different styles and expressions of worship. Members of the Body should endeavor to respect each individual’s uniqueness demonstrated in their personal form of worship, cultural background, and practice of faith. In so doing, such esteem can foster true unity evidenced in unified purpose, rather than demanding the church be universally conformed to a superficial uniformity. Together, we are the Body of Christ, called to build the Kingdom in harmony and agape love.
